NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF OPEN SCHOOL (NIOS)

The National Institute of Open School (NIOS) is an autonomous and registered organization established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India. NIOS is an "Open School" which caters to the needs of a diverse group of learners up to pre-degree level. It extends open learning facilities in a phased manner at secondary level all over the country as an independent system with its own curriculum and examination leading to certification.

It has a mission to provide relevant continuing education at school stage, up to pre-degree level through Open Learning system as an alternative to formal system, in pursuance of the normative national policy documents and in response to the need assessments of the people, and through it to make its share of contribution:
To universalisation of education,
To greater equity and justice in society, and
To the evolution of a learning society.
It provides learning based on a curriculum that ensures a quality of education for children, neo-literates, school drop-outs/left-outs and Non Formal Education completers.

At the Secondary and Senior Secondary levels, NIOS provides flexibility in the choice of subjects/courses, pace of learning, and transfer of credits from CBSE, some Board of School Education and State Open Schools to enable learner's continuation. A learner is extended as many as nine chances to appear in public examinations spread over a period of five years. The credits gained are accumulated till the learner acquires required credits for certification. The learning strategies include; learning through printed self-instructional material, audio and video programmes, participating in personal contact programme (PCP), and Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA). Enrichment is also provided to the learners through the half yearly magazine "Open Learning". The Study Material is made available in English, Hindi and Urdu mediums.
Admission is done online for the Secondary and Senior Secondary courses with two blocks of exams held in April-May and October-November each year.

NIOS operates through a network of Departments, Regional Centres and Study Centres. NIOS is the largest Open Schooling system in the world with cumulative enrolment of 4.13 million students (during last 5 years) across India and abroad.

ADMISSION

Applications for admissions are accepted from students of all faiths. Admission, registration and all payments to the NIOS Board are done completely online and this will be facilitated by our institution. Candidates are asked to fill in the admission forms with the utmost accuracy. The applicant must appear for the interview along with his/her parent/guardian before being admitted. The signing of this form will constitute an agreement on the part of the parent/guardian and the candidate to abide by the rules of the Institute.

COURSES OFFERED

OUR FOCUS is to provide underprivileged children with a conducive environment for study; to help them understand, accept and deal effectively with the influences of their environment and take personal responsibility for their lives.

CHOICE OF SUBJECTS
In NIOS system, the student has to choose minimum 5 subjects including one language (100 marks each). The medium of Instruction is English and we teach the following subjects at Don Bosco Parra.

FLEXIBILITY

The student is expected to clear the course within 5 years of registration. He/she is allowed 9 chances. The subjects can be cleared one at a time or more according to student's preparation and convenience. There is a facility of accumulation of and improvement in credits. Once all the 5 subjects are cleared, credits are accumulated and the certificate is issued.

FEE STRUCTURE

The fees cover the entire academic year and must be paid in full at the time of admission. No reduction is made for holidays. Fees once paid will not be refunded. Examination registration fees have to be paid at the end of November for all those appearing for the April examination. The amounts will be intimated at the Institute to the students.

ELIGIBILITY

Secondary:
The minimum age to take admission in the Secondary Course is 14 years as on 31st July 2019 (born on or before 31.07.2005)

Senior Secondary:
The minimum age to take admission in the Senior Secondary Course is 15 years. As on 31st July, 2019 (born on or before 31.07.2004)

In order to take admission in the Senior Secondary course, the learner must have passed the Secondary course from a recognised Board.

RECOGNITION

The Secondary Education Course of NIOS is equivalent to Std. X. And the Senior Secondary Education Course is equal to Std. XII. The NIOS is recognized by the Goa Secondary and Higher Secondary Board and University of Goa.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

All original Documents must be submitted along with one clear photocopy at the time of admission as all documents will be uploaded online to the NIOS.

Secondary:

  • 1. 2 recent passport sized photos with full name and current date printed on the photograph
  • 2. Birth Certificate (Valid proof of date of birth)
  • 3. Valid identity proof (like Aadhaar Card or Passport or Ration card or etc.)
  • 4. Address proof i.e. Aadhaar Card/Water Bill/Electricity Bill/Voter ID/Ration Card/Passport/Statement of Operational Bank Account/Appointment Letter from the Employer on Printed Letter Head, if living in rented accommodation - copy of any proof of permanent address along with present Rental Agreement
  • 5. Class 8th marksheet (in case of secondary course) or
    Self-Certification by the learner stating "I have studied enough to be able to pursue secondary course"
  • 6. Disability certificate (in case he/she is having any kind of disability)
  • 7. Social category/Caste certificate (in case the learner belongs to SC/ST/OBC social category).or Ex-serviceman certificate (in case he/she is an Ex-serviceman)

Senior Secondary:

  • 2 recent passport sized photos with full name and current date printed on the photograph

TEXT BOOKS

Text Books are delivered to all enrolled learners to their registered address by the NIOS Board from Delhi.

UNIFORM

Every student must attend the Institute in complete and correct uniform daily. Uniform is compulsory for all activities at Don Bosco, both Curricular and Co-Curricular. Sample is displayed in the office.

Boys:
1. Light blue shirt - The shirt is to be tucked in at all times.
2. Dark Blue Trousers - Normal length covering the ankle, no narrow fit
3. Black Belt
4. Footwear
Black rainwear shoes to be worn during the monsoons until mid-October
Black leather shoes to be worn from the 15th of October with white socks.
5. Boys' hair must be cut short and neat. Hair should not touch the collar. No fanciful haircut is allowed. Hair must not be tinted or dyed. No shaving or cropping the sides and back. NO colouring/styling of hair will be permitted
6. Ornaments (Earrings, chains, bracelets etc) are NOT permitted

Girls:
1. Light blue/Dark Blue Salwar Kameez. (style in office)
2. Light Blue Shirt - Length below the Hip
Dark Blue Trousers - Normal length covering the ankle, no narrow fit
JEANS AND TIGHTS will NOT be permitted
3. Footwear
Black rainwear shoes to be worn during the monsoons until mid-October
Black closed shoes to be worn from the 15th of October - NO Heels
4. Hair should be neat. Girls with hair touching the lower collar must tie it up neatly with a black Or blue band. Loose hair or fringe must be neatly pinned up. NO colouring/styling of hair will be permitted
5. Nails are to be kept clean and short at all times. Nail polish is not allowed.
6. Putting on of make-up and lipstick is not permitted.
